Bhutan’s 100 Ngultrum polymer banknote is a commemorative currency issued by the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan to celebrate the 70th Birth Anniversary of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck.Key Details & Design Features:Material & Durability: Printed on De La Rue’s SAFEGUARD® polymer substrate, this plastic-based note is significantly more durable, resistant to wear, and water-resistant than traditional cotton-paper notes.Dimensions: 145 × 69 mmObverse (Front): Features a portrait of the reigning Monarch, His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, along with a cosmic mandala representing five sensory offerings presented to nine central dragons.Reverse (Back): Displays a detailed illustration of the iconic Tashichho Dzong (the seat of government and religion in Bhutan), topped by the symbolic Garuda warding off negative forces. The design also features the State Seal.Security Features: The polymer format enables advanced anti-counterfeiting features, including integrated clear windows, micro-optics, and tactile embossings that aid in visibility and authentication.Value & Exchange: The Ngultrum is pegged at an exact 1:1 parity with the Indian Rupee (INR), and roughly valued at around $1.05 to $1.20 USD.All previous paper Ngultrum series remain legal tender, but these polymer issues mark a historic shift for Bhutanese currency into a more sustainable, environmentally friendly, and robust format.
