I HAVE THIS NOTE IN MY COLLECTION
WESTFALIA: Bielefeld,
city savings bank, 4.20 Gold-Mark = 1 Dollar, 25th of November 1923 (about 7 x
9 cm), dark yellow ("gold") velvet, quality = UNC
HISTROY:-
A very
special notgeld - Bielefeld is still called the
"Silk and Linen" city in Germany, because of its large
textile industry (which is nowadays not so very large anymore). Therefore the
city savings bank produced in the inflation years in the early 1920s banknotes
made out of Linen, silk and velvet, which fastly became very popular
collector's items. Texts and pictures on the notes were mostly very political
(lost war, inflation etc.) or satirical.
